Checking accounts are considered to be transaction accounts. At St. Joseph’s Credit Union various checking accounts are offered with various access options:

* The Standard or Regular Checking Account
* The Money Market Checking Account: Higher Dividends but more restrictive.

Access to these accounts may be by paper checks, QuickCash (ATM) Card, and by electronic transactions.

Overdraft Advance or Courtesy Pay

Members qualifing to have Overdraft Advance also known as Courtesy Pay on their checking accounts are allowed to overdraw their checking account on a temporary basis.  The program is designed to provide limited relief to members that inadvertently overdraw there checking account. by paying items that would otherwise be returned.

Qualified Members with Overdraft Advance privileges (checking accounts in good standing) are allowed to overdraw their checking account balance up to an aggregate total of $600.  Once the checking account  has become overdrawn, members will be notified by mail of the overdraft that the entire overdrawn balance shall be repaid immediately.  Accounts with overdrawn balances of 30 days or more and accouts that are delinquent by 30 days or more shall not be eligible for this service.

There will be a service charge (See Fee Schedule) for each item that is paid on the member's behalf.  This fee shall be set by the board of directors and may be changed from time to time.  This charge shall be in lieu of the customary insufficient funds fee charged when items are returned unpaid.

Checking accounts that have been opened less than 90 days are not eligible for Overdraft Advance privileges.  Accounts ineligible for credit union services for other reasons shall also not be eligible to overdraw their checking accounts.

Overdraft Advance may be revoked or suspended for good cause, as determined by management.
